As the South pries away more pieces of Washington state?s aerospace industry, some experts have arrived at a striking conclusion: There?s little Washington state can do to stem the loss.

Sister publication the Puget Sound Business Journal reports that the South has become increasingly skillful in crafting advanced engines and carbon composite aircraft structures ? often borrowing those techniques from the region's auto plants, which are producing $60,000 BMWs and other high-tech vehicles.

The report notes The Boeing Co.?s latest and largest new version of the Dreamliner ? the 787-10 ? is likely to be built in South Carolina, where Boeing?s fast-growing complex covers 240 acres in North Charleston.
